Addressing inequities in cancer care

Join leaders in cancer care and research at the first FHS Aquero lecture of 2023 for an engaging discussion of the current and future landscape for cancer incidence and survival rates.

Panellists include:

  • Professor Jeff Dunn AO, President of the Union for International Cancer Control and Chief of Mission and Head of Research at the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia
  • Holly Masters, Chief Executive Officer of the McGrath Foundation
  • Associate Professor Nada Hamad, Senior Staff Specialist TCT, Clinical and Laboratory Haematologist, St Vincent’s Health Network and a senior staff specialist in bone marrow transplant, cellular therapies, clinical and laboratory haematology
  • Todd Harper AM, CEO Cancer Council Victoria, who has led organisations dedicated to global public health for three decades.

Between them, members of this distinguished panel have developed strategies that underpin cancer survival and improve awareness of the disease. They have led the charge to ensure that every person experiencing breast cancer has access to the free support of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse, wherever they live in Australia. Members of the panel have pioneered clinical research on malignant haematology, bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapies and spearheaded research initiatives into tobacco plain packaging, screening campaigns and obesity prevention.

The panellists will explore why incidence, mortality and overall survival rates are still influenced by where we live, what we earn, and our cultural and ethnic status.

Please join the Faculty of Health Sciences’ first Aquero lecture of the year.

When: 12.30pm–1.30pm (AEST), Tuesday 18 April 2023
