2023 Academic Promotions round now open

Promotion recognises and rewards an academic’s achievements at their current level of appointment that warrant promotion to the next academic level.

This year’s round marks a significant shift in the way the university assesses those achievements. Following an extensive review, the university has adopted:

  • a framework that describes twelve domains of academic activity, each with criteria and standards of achievement for staff at Academic Levels A through D
  • the requirement to lodge a notice of intent to apply for promotion
  • revised Academic Promotions Committee structures which include four faculty sub-committees to consider applications from Levels A and B academic staff and a Senior Promotions Committee to assess applications from Levels C and D academics
  • an Internal Report from the Head of School/Institute Director
  • anonymous reports from two experts drawn from the newly established ACU Panel of External Assessors
  • a strengthened process to consider each applicant’s Achievement Relative to Opportunity (ARtO)
  • criteria and standards specifically written with a focus on gender equity, diversity and inclusion
  • a streamlined application process with multiple innovations, including an online submission portal and an Achievements Summary for Promotion report.

If you are planning to apply this year, are the supervisor of a potential applicant, or are interested to learn more about these changes you are encouraged to access information about the 2023 process from the Academic Promotions webpage including:
