A message from the Associate Vice-Chancellor Professor Marea Nicholson (NSW/ACT):
We are constantly looking for ways to improve campus facilities and, as our student numbers have grown on the Strathfield Campus, I am pleased to announce that the efforts of a hardworking and capable team has paid off and work has commenced on the site of the Strathfield Campus’ underground carpark project.
The site will accommodate up to 310 vehicles and have the infrastructure for end of trip facilities, as well as provision in the future for charging stations for electric cars. An oval will be constructed above the carpark with synthetic turf for use as playing fields. It is envisaged that the project will be finished early in 2019, before the academic year commences.
Parking at Strathfield Campus has been a long term challenge. We hope the additional car parking facilities will assist in rebuilding our relationship with local residents and relieve the parking pressure on the surrounding community.
This project has been a long time coming and development is progressing well. The images below depict the site before excavation and the progress that has been made to date. I will keep everyone updated as the works progress and thank you for your patience during this construction period. I also want to thank the team that has driven this project over the past eight years and I look forward to seeing how the works progress in this exciting phase of development for ACU.
At the end of May a morning tea was held for the key personnel involved in the construction of the Strathfield underground carpark project to mark the commencement of the excavation. The event was attended by staff from Donald Cant Watts Corke (DCWC), the project managers, and Hansen Yuncken (HY), the construction company, in addition to David Browning, previously State Development Manager (NSW/ACT), Chris Gill, State Development Manager (QLD/NSW/ACT) and Mark Trevithick, Facilities Manager, Strathfield. It was also an opportunity to farewell David Browning, and introduce and welcome Chris Gill to the team, who will be replacing David as the State Development Manager (NSW/ACT).
