How to access LEO features and functions

The information sections below explain how to access functions and features available in LEO, and navigating within your units.

Take some time to familiarise yourself with the interface. Some of the things to look out for on the LEO home page include:

  1. Burger icon: click to open the Main Navigation menu on the left (click to toggle on and off).
  2. Profile menu: click your name in the top-right corner to show the menu).
  3. Calendar: a summary of events happening in your units.
  4. Dashboard: provides access to all your LEO units.
  5. My units: a list in the Navigation menu of your currently in-progress units.
  6. Staff Notices: important information and updates for staff on the LEO home page.
  7. Help: click to access LEO Technical Support.
  8. Unit admin blocks: unit creation, evaluation data and other administrative features will appear here.

Unit administrative functions

The blocks on the right-hand side of the LEO home page provide both students and staff with links to LEO Guides, ACU Library, LEO technical support, the Academic skills unit, and your ePortfolio.

In addition to these, staff with the Editing Lecturer role may also access:

  • The Unit Creation block to create units and enrol student cohorts in units.
  • Evaluations data for your units.
  • Any other site functions relevant to your LEO role.

My units in the Navigation menu

The My units list in the navigation menu is useful for quickly navigating to your other units from wherever you are in LEO. However, this will only show units currently in progress:

For access to upcoming units and archived units, navigate to the Dashboard.

The LEO Dashboard gives you access to all your present, past, future and archived units. To access the Dashboard:

  • Click the Dashboard link on the LEO home page. Or,
  • Click your name in the top-right corner and select the Dashboard link from the Profile menu.

By default, you should see a list of all currently in-progress units:

Click the unit name to navigate to that LEO unit.

Filters and sorting

Above the list of units are some functions you can use to customise what units you wish to view on the dashboard and how they should be displayed:

  • Click the All button to choose a filter (such as units in progress, future, past, starred or removed units).
  • Click the Card button to change how units are displayed (as a list, with the unit summary, or as cards in the image above).
  • Click the Course name button to change how displayed units are sorted (such as by name or last accessed)

If you filter for units, LEO will remember this and show these units again the next time you access the Dashboard.

Starring units

Units you visit frequently can be starred. Using the filters, you can then view only your starred units. This may be particularly useful if you are enrolled in many units but only access a few regularly.

To star a unit, click the unit menu button and choose the Star this course option:

Removing units from view

Units you are enrolled in but do not need to access can be hidden in a "removed" category, meaning they no longer appear on the Dashboard unless you specifically filter for "removed from view" units.

To hide a unit from the Dashboard, click the unit menu button and choose the Remove from view option:

The Dashboard includes an Archived Units block that gives you access to previous units that have been moved to the archive:

  1. Log into LEO at https://leo.acu.edu.au
  2. Click the Dashboard link on the LEO home page.
  3. In the Archived Units block on the right, click a Year to collapse a list of archived units in that year.
  4. Click the name of the unit you wish to access:

When you navigate to a LEO unit you should notice that:

  • A unit-specific menu has been added to the Main Navigation menu on the left, which provides access to the unit participants, grades, and all the sections of your unit.
  • The blocks on the right side of the page will now be unique to this unit, providing additional information and links.
  • Unit sections, such as Information and Communications, are available in the main content section.
  • Breadcrumb links have been added to the red title bar for the unit.
  • Administrative functions for editing lecturers, such as the Turn editing on button and the cog icon to access the unit administration menu, appear in the red title bar.

Accessing the sections of your unit

Units are often displayed in the Tile format (see the image above), meaning that each section of content appears as its own tile on the unit home page.

To navigate to a section:

  • Click the section tile in the main content section, or
  • Click the name of the section in the unit navigation menu on the left.

Each section should contain content and links to activities and resources relevant to that section.

When in a section, each other section of the unit will be accessible using the menu buttons that appear at the top of the section content.

Accessing other functions in your unit

Participants page

The Participants page, accessible via the Participants link in the unit navigation menu, lists all users in your unit and allows you to search for a single user or a group of users. On this page, editing lecturers may also enrol other staff, and access the Users and Groups menu.

For more information, please see LEO Guides: Managing users.

Gradebook

The Gradebook, accessible via the Grades link in the unit navigation menu, is where grades from unit activities are collated and stored for students and staff to review. Gradebook is set up and maintained by the unit's lecturer-in-charge.

For more information, please see LEO Guides: Gradebook.

Unit settings and editing

Staff with the Editing Lecturer role in a unit will be able to click the Turn editing on button to add, move and delete resources and activities in the unit, as well as change unit settings and access additional functions using the cog menu.

For more information, please see LEO Guides: Managing users.
