Video: How to customise your notification preferences

View the above video How to customise your notification preferences on Echo360.

To edit your profile, click the Edit profile link under the User account heading on the Preferences page.

This page is where you can edit details about yourself and determine how other users might view details about yourself.

There are three sections in particular on this page that might be relevant.

Description

You can use this section to list your qualifications and experience, which may be useful for students and other staff members to learn more about you.

Enter your information in the Description box on this page. You can use the text editor tools to customise the look and feel of your content if you wish.

Email Display

The Email display setting allows you to customise who can view your email address on your Profile page. This should be set to either "Allow only other unit members to see my email address" or "Allow everyone to see my email address".

It is important that students in your unit can see your email address and are able to contact you this way if necessary.

Profile Picture

In the User picture section of the profile settings you can upload a profile picture of yourself. The profile picture will be available to students when they view your profile page. It will also be visible during some activities, such as when you post in a Forum for example.

Having a profile picture is useful for students to put a human face to their lecturer and for them to quickly identify important posts in the Forums. You should also encourage your students to upload their own profile pictures.

To upload a picture, drag a picture file (.jpg, .gif or .png format files only) into the box provided, or click on the Plus icon to browse for and select a file on your computer to upload.

Notification preferences

bell iconWhenever certain actions occur in LEO, it may send a notification as either an email or an in-LEO notification. Notifications in LEO are accessible by clicking the Bell or the Message icon at the top of the screen next to your name.

Some of the actions that might generate a Bell notification include:

  • Someone posts in a Forum that you are following
  • A student submits a Turnitin Assignment in your unit.

Web notificationsSome of the actions that might generate a Message notification include:

  • Another LEO user sends a message to you through LEO.

To customise your notification preferences:

  1. Click your name to open the Profile Menu.
  2. From the menu select Preferences.
  3. On the Preferences page, select Notification Preferences under the User account heading.
  4. Click the "On" or "Off" option for each type of notification as you prefer.
  5. Click the Save changes button at the bottom of the page.

How these notifications work

You can choose how (and if) LEO will send you a notification in each category.

  • Web: while you're using a web browser
  • Email: notification will be sent to your email
  • Online: you're logged into LEO
  • Offline: you're not logged into LEO

The Web and Email columns determine whether you will receive a LEO notification (which you can see by clicking the Bell or Message icon next to your name) or an Email notification (which is sent to your ACU email).

Web:

  • Online - you will receive a LEO notification while you're logged in - a number  beside the bell or message in your profile bar.
  • Offline - notifications will keep accumulating on your profile bar even if you're not logged into LEO. If is set to off, you will only get new notifications added while you're logged in.

Email:

  • Online - you will receive email notifications even while you're logged into LEO
  • Offline - you will receive email notifications only if logged out of LEO

The Online and Offline options for each determine whether you receive that type of notification if you are currently logged into LEO or not.

For example Assignment category determines whether you will receive a notification if a student submits an assignment in a unit where you have an Assignment activity. Many activities in LEO have separate notification options on this page.

If you want to receive a LEO notification on a Feedback activity being completed if you are currently online, and an email notification if you are offline. You can toggle on and off these options to suit you.

messaging notification settings

Your Forum preferences determines how you receive any posts from Forums you are subscribed to, allowing you to receive messages individually or on a daily basis.

You may customise your Forum preferences from your User Preferences page to change the way the digest is displayed, plus change how you track and subscribe to different forums in your units.

Note: By choosing Complete or Subjects you will receive one email per day with notifications. If you choose No digest, you will receive an email every time there is a post to discussions you are following.
