The Centre for Education and Innovation offers a range resources for academics new to teaching at ACU.

Before the teaching period begins, check with your school administrator or supervisor to ensure you have an active ACU login, this will permit access to ACU systems such as email and the Learning Environment Online (LEO).

All units taught at ACU, irrespective of the study mode, must have a LEO unit.

How can I get access to units I'm teaching in?

You will be enrolled in units by the lecturer-in-charge. If you are unable to see your units in the LEO navigation menu or the Dashboard, contact LEO support.

When are units released to students?

Units are generally opened to students 2 weeks before classes start. They should include a copy of the current unit outline upon being made available.

How will my unit be structured?

ACU introduced a new LEO template to help students locate information and resources, support services, communication and assessment. The structure of a unit may vary depending on your faculty and the type of delivery. For more information about the LEO template, refer to the LEO template guide 2021 LEO unit and self-enrol with your ACU LEO credentials.

What technologies will be incorporated into my unit?

LEO includes a suite of technologies that support learning and teaching. Please refer to the TEL diagram for more information. For an easy-to-use visual reference about the various applications in LEO and how to integrate them into your teaching practice, refer to the Technology Selector.

How will I monitor student progress?

For more information meet regularly with your teaching team, discuss with colleagues in school meetings. For more information about student activity in your LEO unit, refer to managing users, completion tracking, and grades.

How will I establish rules of engagement with students?

All staff and students must agree to LEO site policy at the beginning of each semester in order to access LEO. The site policy includes a declaration of originality. Regarding discussion forums, refer to Netiquette.

How will students access lecture recordings, online tutorials and examinations?

Your unit unit should include links to join online tutorial sessions delivered via Zoom as a host and as a participant. Recordings of tutorial sessions can be saved to the cloud and automatically saved to your Echo360 library. For more information about how students attend Zoom meetings refer to how to use Zoom.

It is standard practice at ACU that all lectures are time-tabled in lecture-capture enabled venues. Adding a link to automatically recorded lectures in Echo360 in your unit will ensure students have access to recordings.

If you are including examination in your unit, prepare this early and send requests to Examinations. If you have a query regarding online examinations, please contact acu.examinations@acu.edu.au

How will I receive feedback about my teaching practice in a unit?

Coursework units offered at ACU are evaluated in accordance with the Evaluation of Learning and Teaching policy and related procedures, for more information refer to Student Evaluation of Learning and Teaching (SELT). Academics may also choose to use a range of informal methods for feedback during the teaching period.
