The Assignment allows students to upload their assignments in a digital format. It accepts many different file formats, including Word documents, Spreadsheets, PDF, images, and online audio recording. It allows students to submit an ePortfolio 'Page' or 'Collection' as an assessment task, as well as allowing students to embed Kaltura media through a LEO assignment activity.
A Certificate creates a PDF certificate for students in a unit, based on predefined conditions set by the teacher. A certificate can include border, codes, grades and custom text. A certificate can be a useful way to encourage students to complete tasks in order to be awarded a downloadable certificate.
A Chat offers more flexibility in terms of format and structure. At its most basic, a Database is made up of templates and fields. Templates dictate how the Database will display visually, while fields dictate the types of data the Database will store and manage. A database can be a useful way to encourage students to contribute to the class's learning.
A Choice allows the teacher to ask a question, which students can click to make a selection from a number of possible responses. Choices can be useful as quick poll to stimulate thinking about a topic; to allow the class to vote on a direction for the unit, or to gauge progress.

An External Tool connects your unit with resources or activities that operate outside LEO, examples include Adobe Connect (live classroom); Echo360 (Lecture capture), Unitpulse (feedback) and Leganto (reading lists).
A Feedback tool enables teachers to develop and deliver simple surveys to students for the purposes of collecting feedback. The Feedback survey can be anonymous, or you can log the student's name alongside their responses.
Feedback Fruits enables teachers to add Peer Review and Group Evaluation activities to units to encourage students to provide feedback on the work of their peers and rate the contributions of their team members.
A Forum is a discussion tool which facilitates asynchronous discussions in the form of posted messages. The concept of the Forum is based on a user posting a topic or question, and then receiving responses from either teaching staff or students. While forums primary purpose is a communication tool, there are 5 different types of discussion forums you can set up for students.
The Glossary can be used as a collaborative activity, where students are able to create and maintain definitions; or it can be edited and maintained exclusively by teaching staff. You can use a glossary as a space where definitions are proposed, discussed and refined with input from students.
The Lesson activity can be used to create an adaptive learning experience where, depending on the student's choice of answer, students may progress to the next page, be taken back to a previous page or redirected down a different path entirely.You can create very simple sequences within the Lesson tool, or set up complex, many-branched structures that tailor the learning very closely to students' needs.
A Quiz is a set of questions presented to the learner within your LEO unit. There are many different question types you can add to your Quiz, including multiple choice, matching items, essay, and true/false.
Turnitin compares a student assignment with a global database of billions of websites, research papers and student assignments to find text matches between the submission and other sources, it then generates an originality report. Turnitin also includes GradeMark for adding text or voice comments, rubrics or grading forms and PeerMark for peer review.
A Wiki can be collaborative (with everyone in your LEO unit being able to add and edit pages), or individual (everyone in the LEO unit has their own Wiki which only they can edit). Wikis are also particularly useful as part of a group work activity.
Workshop is a peer-assessment and/or peer-review activity. Students are able to receive and provide feedback and/or assessment on each other’s' submissions. Each LEO tool includes different feedback and marking options, results are displayed to students in the Gradebook.
Zoom is a synchronous online meeting room tool that can be used to host a virtual classroom with staff and students. Zoom allows for many participants communication through video and voice, and includes features such as chat, screen and document sharing, and breakout rooms.
Choosing learning activities requires designing activities that engage students, as well as foster critical thinking, problem solving, innovation and creativity, collaboration, teamwork, flexibility and adaptability.
