LEO can notify you about changes to your activities or assignments within your LEO units.

Several actions in LEO will trigger a particular notification, however several activities in LEO can have specific notification settings applied to them. For example:

  • Assignments: Settings include an option to notify graders about submissions and late submissions.
  • Forums: Preferences will impact on what type of individual emails or Forum Digest you receive.
  • Feedback: Settings can determine notification of grading or submissions.

What notifications you, your fellow academic staff, and your students, receive is dependent on your personal settings in LEO. For more information, please see the LEO Guide: Personal settings.

Please see below for information about customising these notification settings.

  • Notify graders about submissions: tutors are notified when a student submits an assignment.
  • Notify graders about late submissions: tutors are notified when a student submits an assignment late.
  • Default setting for "Notify students": by default, students are notified when their assignments have been graded, which you can change here.

Assignment personal preferences

Whether staff or students receive notifications you've set for Assignments depends upon their personal settings. The personal "Assignment" preferences, shown in the image below, will determine how a user receives notifications you have set for that activity (via a LEO notification, by email, or both):

Grading reminders

The Assignment activity also includes an additional setting that can remind you (via a LEO notification) that you have grading that needs to be completed. The "remind me to grade by" option can be found in the Assignment settings:

Forum activity preferences

The Forum activity in LEO can enable user to "subscribe" to a particular forum, meaning they will receive notifications for only those forums (the exception is the Announcements forum, which is a forced subscription by default).

To enable optional subscription, go to the Forum settings and set the Subscription mode to "Optional subscription":

If and how students and tutors receive notifications regarding forums also depends upon their personal settings. "Forum" preferences, shown in the image below, will determine how a user receives notifications for Forums they are subscribed to (via a LEO notification, by email, or both).

The Feedback activity in LEO includes an "Enable notification of submissions" options in the activity settings, which determines whether tutors will be notified of student submissions:
