Let’s talk about consent

ACU is a Respect. Now. Always. university with a zero-tolerance policy on sexual assault and sexual harassment. A short-animated video has been created for the ACU community on the meaning of consent and to encourage ethical bystander behaviour. This video will be included in the student enrolment Terms and Conditions page to be viewed by all enrolling students every year.

Sexual intimacy is not only about consent, but also about individual affection, autonomy, moral principles and human dignity. This is why it is important for all staff and students to take responsibility for their behaviour and to take the time to ensure they understand what it means to obtain consent before becoming sexually intimate with others.

Ultimately, consent is about doing the right thing, and treating people with respect and dignity. This includes intervening in situations where a person is being taken advantage of, as long as it is safe to do so. If we all work together and are respectful of each other, we can reduce the potential for sexual harassment and violence in the broader community.
