ACU awarded Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation 2017/18

Dear Colleagues,

Today, Australian Catholic University has been awarded the Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency for the sixth consecutive year.

Ensuring our culture has embedded workplace gender equality across all campuses is one of the University’s proudest achievements and a key part of our mission and values.

Our Gender Equality Strategy (GES) 2015 – 2020 sets out our commitment to build on our strong gender equality foundations and I am pleased to say that we are continuing to deliver on our objectives.

Some of our achievements include:

  • Consistently high levels of women represented in leadership roles, which remains at close to 60%, and more than 50% in senior leadership positions
  • Our governing body consists of 50% women, which is almost double the Australian average of 25.3%
  • Our flexible working provisions are taken up by a large number of staff
  • The number of women and men accessing primary carer’s parental leave of up to twelve months has increased by 13% in the past 12 months.

More organisations than ever before have been granted the EOCGE citation, reflecting the growing commitment to workplace gender equality in Australia. ACU’s consistency in receiving this prestigious citation positions us as a leading practice employer in gender equality.

I recently signed up as a Pay Equity Ambassador and will continue to champion ACU’s gender equality initiatives to the University community and in external forums to encourage leaders in other organisations to consider how they can contribute to achieving gender pay equity.

On 8 March 2018 for International Women’s Day we will celebrate the success of the University’s women Alumni. It also provides an opportunity to consider the work still required to achieve gender equality across all communities.

Yours sincerely,

Professor Greg Craven AO, GCSG
Vice-Chancellor and President
Australian Catholic University
