A message from the Associate Vice-Chancellor NSW/ACT Professor Marea Nicholson: It was a privilege for the Mount St Mary Campus to host the recent Interfaith gathering coordinated by the Maronite community of Sydney, under the auspices of Most Reverend Antoine-Charbel Tarabay.

This event, on Friday 24 March, brought together many people from the Christian and Islamic traditions to pray for unity and peace. The date chosen was the eve of the Annunciation, as people of both religious traditions honour Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Present at the gathering were a number of clerics from the Maronite community, as well as many sheikhs, including the Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed, Grand Mufti of Australia. Also present were Members of Parliament and ambassadors and representatives of countries in the Middle East.Bishop Tarabay was the main speaker and he was joined by a number of eminent Sheikhs who all prayed for unity and peace.

Speakers also included Dr Geoff Lee, Member for Parramatta and representing the Premier, Gladys Berejiklian and Mr Luke Foley MP, Leader of the Opposition, Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, Member for Auburn.
