Use this guide if you would like to create a new unit by copying an existing unit, but not link the new unit to a student Banner cohort. Students WILL NOT be enrolled in this unit.

You can only copy units in which you are enrolled as an Editing Lecturer. For more information please see LEO Guides: How to create a new unit.

  1. From the LEO Homepage, click the Create new or copy unit link in the Unit creation block.
  2. On the Unit Creation page, firstly:
    • Select the Copy an existing unit option.
    • Select your Faculty from the dropdown list.
  3. A search box will appear. Type in a keyword (such as the unit code) to help find the unit you would like to make a copy of, then click the Refine Search button.
  4. A list of all the matching units will appear. For the unit you wish to copy, click the Choose button:
    Copying a unit
Note: Ensure you select the correct, most recent, up-to-date version of the unit.
  5. Under the Banner unit? heading, choose No.
  6. Under the New unit details heading, modify the Full name, Short name and Start date fields as appropriate.
    • If you are making a sandbox unit, name it appropriately, such as "Your Name Sandbox". This title must be unique in LEO.
    • The Short name should be descriptive, but short enough to fit in the title breadcrumb links.
    • You can set the Start date to the current day to make it immediately visible to you.
  7. When finished, click the Create button to create the unit. This can take some time to complete, and will take you to the settings page for the unit when finished.
  8. Adjust your unit settings as required, then click the Save and display button.

For more information on unit settings, please see LEO Guides: Unit settings.
