If you are a lecturer-in-charge (LIC) of a unit, it is your responsibility to ensure that your units are available at the beginning of semester and are kept up-to-date. This may include creating the unit itself and adding learning activities and resources, as well as managing users and groups.

Some of the items that should exist in a LEO unit include:

  • Unit outline and assessment outline.
  • The communication strategy and tools (such as forums).
  • Learning activities and assessments, which may include quizzes and assignments.
  • Resources such as readings, videos and web links.

Below are answers to some common questions from staff who are new to the Editing Lecturer role in LEO.

Log into LEO, then click the Dashboard link on the LEO home page. You can then use the filter to show In progress units, which are your units running in the current teaching period.

Units that have been created already, but are not yet open to students, may be found by filtering for Future units.

When you create a new unit, it will be displayed on the Dashboard for enrolled staff and students:

Archived units (from previous teaching periods) that you were enrolled in are also available on the Dashboard under the Archived Units block, where they are organised by the year they were taught it.

Click the Year to expand the list of your archived units for that year.

Making a new unit from a template

To be able to create a unit from a faculty template, you first need to be made an editing lecturer in any LEO unit in your faculty. This can be usually be done by your supervisor, faculty eLearning manager, or you can ask LEO Support for help.

Making a new unit by copying an existing unit

To copy an existing unit to make a new unit for the current teaching period, you first need to be an editing lecturer in the unit you wish to copy. This can be usually be done by the previous LIC for the unit, your supervisor or faculty eLearning manager, or you can ask LEO Support for help.
