Information for applicants:

The principles of the academic promotions processes are underpinned by the Academic Promotions Policy and Academic Promotions Procedures.

The process assesses that academic staff have demonstrated that they meet the expectations for the relevant academic level and academic career pathway (ACP) as detailed in the Guidelines on the Criteria and Evidence Requirements for Promotion and the Academic Performance Matrices and Evidence (APME) Framework.

All applications for promotion must use the current version of the form:

  • Application and Case for Promotion – Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Levels B/C)
  • Application and Case for Promotion – Associate Professor/Professor (Levels D/E)

Applicants for promotion are encouraged to:

  1. discuss your plans to apply for promotion with your nominated supervisor: this discussion would normally be part of ongoing performance review and planning conversations with your supervisor. In addition, you may wish to seek further guidance from other senior academic staff members who have successfully experienced the process.
  2. ensure you have reviewed the policy, procedures, application and case for promotion form, guidelines along with the applicant guide.
  3. Start early: carefully read the guidelines and start preparing your case and evidence portfolio early to give yourself the best chance of success.
